🌟 Defining Sexual Wellbeing

Completed by 0
Sexual health can mean very different things to different people, we all have our own unique definition of the concept. One thing is for sure, it’s that we can often have quite a narrow definition of it.

Often when we think about this area of our lives, we might just think about how often we’re having sex, whether we’re partnered or not, or about practical things like STI screenings.

However, according to the World Health Organisation, overall sexual health is about wellbeing, not just the absence of disease.

And furthermore, sexual wellbeing is not just about the physical act of sex or the frequency of it. It is so much more.

Things get a lot more interesting when we can broaden our definition of what sexual wellbeing means to us.

This is a guide which includes all the important factors of our sexual wellbeing, from a sex therapy perspective.

The Key Components of Sexual Wellbeing

✍️ Reflective Task: Sexual Wellbeing Self-Review

Take a few moments to explore each component of sexual wellbeing briefly.

Remember, how we express ourselves in these areas is deeply personal and specific to each of us.

With a pen and paper, or your notes app, reflect on which aspects stand out to you most in relation to your own sexual wellbeing right now.

  • Which areas bring you a sense of satisfaction right now?
  • Are there any areas that you feel could benefit from more attention or care?

Write openly and honestly, giving yourself the freedom to explore your thoughts with kindness and self-compassion. Use this exercise as an opportunity to gain deeper insight into your own needs.
